Key Manager Tab

The Key Manager window is used to configure encryption keys, which can then be used to secure voice calls, chat sessions and file transfers.

New - create a new key.

Save - after making changes to any of the entry fields, this button should be clicked to save the entered values.

When modifying an existing key, changes to any fields, other than the display name will cause myKryptofon to generate new encryption data for the key.  As a result, this key will no longer be usable with its prior version.  Be sure to export and/or send the modified key to anyone with whom you plan to use this key to secure a call, chat or file transfer.

Undo - after making changes to any of the entry fields, this button can be clicked to restore all entry fields to their last saved values.

Display Name

Display Name - this name is shown in the key selection lists,Text Chat windows and File Transfer windows.  You can enter any value for this field.

Life Time

Life Time Settings - a myKryptofon key can be configured so that its lifetime of usability is limited.  That lifetime can be one of the following types:

Unlimited - the key is usable immediately and never expires.

Single Session - the key is usable immediately.  It expires upon completion of the first voice call, or termination of the first chat session, in which this key was used.

Custom - you must specify the start date/time and end date/time of the usable lifetime of the key.  The key becomes usable when the start time arrives, and ceases to be usable when the end time arrives.  All times should be entered using the local time zone of the computer you are currently running on.  Internally, myKryptofon manages these times in GMT. As a result, when the key is used on another computer having a different local time, the values displayed use the local time zone, yet they are internally the same time that was originally entered.

When a key's lifetime expires, myKryptofon will automatically delete the key.  If a key expires, and the key is in use in a voice call, the call will continue to use the key, until the call is ended.  If that key is in use in a chat session, the chat session will continue to use the key until the chat session is ended.

Start Date/Time

Start Date/Time - when configured for a Custom Timeframe, use these calendar, hour and minute fields to set the start date/time for the usable life of the key.

End Date/Time

End Date/Time - when configured for a Custom Timeframe, use these calendar, hour and minute fields to set the end date/time for the usable life of the key.

List of myKryptoKeys

The Key List contains a list showing the display name for all of your configured keys, in alphabetic order.  The other fields in this window are populated with the settings for the key selected in this list.

Send Key  - will initiate a key transfer for the selected key, to desired contacts.

Import - will read and import a previously exported key into myKryptofon.

The exported key must be a file on your computer.  Upon clicking this button, you will locate the key file to import.  myKryptofon will then require you to enter the password that was associated with the key when it was created.  If the correct password is entered, the key will be imported and added to your Key List.

myKryptofon requires each key in your Key List to have a unique Display Name.  If the imported key has the same name as an existing key in your Key List, it will not be imported.  You should modify the Display Name of your existing key, and then proceed to import the new key.

Export - will write a key to a file on your computer.

Delete - delete the currently selected key1.

1myKryptofon requires that at least one key always be configured.  During installation, myKryptofon will automatically configure a key whose display name is First Key. This key is the same in every installation of myKryptofon, and thus can be used for secure calls and chats. However since all myKryptofon installations have the same key, the recommended usage is to create a new key for your use, which you must then export and/or send to your colleagues.  Once you have made a new key, you should delete the First Key.

During normal operation, when keys expire, myKryptofon automatically deletes them.  If the last key is deleted due to expiration. myKryptofon will automatically configure another First Key, to satisfy the requirement that at least one key must always be configured.
